Basic Set Up Information
You can use any standard POP e-mail client to
retrieve e-mail from the server and read it on
your local computer. Common POP email clients
include Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express,
Netscape Communicator, and Eudora. Most of these
programs can be set up with the basic information
below:
- username: <enter the pop e-mail account
i.e., johndoe@domain.com>
- password: <enter the password for your
pop e-mail account i.e., cab72NY>
- incoming (POP) mailserver: mail.yourdomain.com
- outgoing (SMTP) mailserver: <enter your
ISP's outgoing mail server>
Setting up Outlook Express
Since Outlook Express is probably the most widely
used e-mail client, we'll provide step by step
instructions on how to set up a POP account on
Outlook Express:
- Click on the Tools menu and select Accounts.
- Click on the Add button and select Mail.
This will bring up the Internet Connection Wizard
window.
- For the Display name, enter your full name
and click on the Next button.
- For the Email address, enter you pop email
address in the format of : username@yourdomain.com
NOTE: Substitute your username and click on
the Next button to continue.
- For the option My incoming mail server is
a, choose: POP3
- For the Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server
field, enter: mail.yourdomain.com.
- For the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field,
enter your ISP's smtp-server.
- Click on the Next button to continue.
- For the POP e-mail account name field, enter
your pop email address in the format of: username@yourdomain.com
.
- For the Password field, enter your password
only if you want the program to save it. This
allows you to check your e-mail without the
need of typing in your password at the beginning
of every session.
- Click on the Next button to continue.
- The next screen asks for Internet mail account
name. You can leave this option at it's default:
mail.yourdomain.com.
- Click on the Next button to continue.
- In this screen, choose the option I will establish
my Internet connection manually.
- Click on the Next button to continue.
- Click on the Finish button.
- Now press "Send and Receive" and
Outlook Express should connect to the server
and download any email for the pop account you
just set up.
